SSA instructors are all qualified to instruct students toward a private pilot certificate.
The FAA minimum requirements for private pilots training under Part 61 are 40 hours of flight time, 10 of these hours are solo pilot in command (PIC), 3 hours simulated instrument, 3 hours night flying, in addition to dual and solo cross country requirements. The national average for students is 60-70 flight hours. To be a private pilot, students must obtain a medical certificate at least a third class or greater, pass a written examination with a score of 70% or higher, and pass the checkride with an FAA DPE. The FAA Private Pilot checkride consists of an oral (ground) and practical (flight) portion. Upon successful completion of the checkride, student pilots are given their Private Pilot Certificate. This certificate allows pilots to then act as PIC in a single-engine airplane operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).
Many students come to us having started training at another school and wanting to complete the training. Our instructors will review your flight time and design a syllabus of instruction that credits your previous time and minimizes your cost. This includes those who have previous military training, some of which will count toward a private pilot's license.
